Tackling HIV Stigma
MA Graphic Design course project, 2021.
Considering the subject for one of the course works, an information design, communicating and revealing a new insight, for personal reasons I decided to focus on the data related to HIV.
My own experience and many scientific surveys prove that despite being present in public awareness for over 40 years HIV still is a poorly understood health condition, positive HIV status is socially devaluing and lived experiences of HIV are often anchored to
misery and death.
Researching the available sources, I have soon realised that it is an enormously vast subject, and if I would like to create something relatively quickly and without sophisticated computational techniques, I will need to narrow my focus to a specific aspect. The data
has been collected globally for years, processed in many ways, and often visualised in various forms: pie charts, timelines, diagrams, tables, etc. I decided to focus on the HIV related stigma, facts revealing its scale, the reasons it exists, how it is affecting
people, and after all, why it is irrational.
